Submersible Sump Pump SUMP PUMPS are water removal pumps designed to remove ground water from your basement and to divert the water to the outside, away from your foundation. SUBMERSIBLE SUMP PUMPS are electric powered pumps designed to operate fully or partially “submerged” underwater and are typically installed within a sump pit basin. The most common application of a submersible sump pump is for basement drainage and to prevent flooding. The pump motor is oil filled and sealed for cooler running, quiet operation and yields longer operational life expectancy. This pump is not suitable for aquatic life.

    • Q. Do you recommend over-sizing a sump pump?
    • No. Generally, the longer the pump runs and the longer it is off, the better.

If your pump is over-sized, the pump will have a shorter run-cycle. The pump will turn on, empty the pit and turn off in a shorter period of time With heavy flow coming into the pit, the sump pump will not stay off for very long. The constant on/off of the pump dramatically shortens the life of the pump.

When a pump properly sized, the pump will cycle on and empty the pit for a longer duration of time. With heavy flow coming into the pit, the pump will have time in between cycles to cool down and produce less cycles over the lifetime of the pump

    • What is the difference between a Stormpro Sump Pump with an M, V, SPI or I at the end of the model name?
    • The letter after the model number refers to the type of switch that is included with the pump. For all of these models, the pump is identical. The only difference between the pumps is the type of switch that is included with the pump.

For the BA-xx-M, the “M” Indicates manual. Manual indicates that no pump switch is included with the pump. The pump operated by plugging the pump directly into the wall outlet, the pump can only be turned on and off by plugging the pump into the wall

For the BA-xx-i, The “i” indicates attached ion switch. The float switch included with the pump is “attached” to the pump and is a digital, non-mechanical float switch. This float switch has no moving parts and is more reliable than a mechanical switch.

For the BA-xx-V, The “V” indicates attached vertical switch. The float switch included with the pump is “attached” to the pump and is a vertical mechanical float switch.

For the BA-xx-SPI, The “SPI” indicates detached vertical switch. The float switch included with the pump is “detached” from the pump and is a vertical mechanical float switch. The float switch attached to the discharge pipe with a discharge pipe clamp connector. This type of switch enable the installer to adjust the location of the switch within the sump pump basin.

    • Why is the Stormpro Pump, model BA-xx-M offered without a switch? Don’t I need a switch to operate this pump?
    • You will need a switch to operate the pump if you are looking to have the pump turn on and off automatically when the sump pit fills with water. We offer the pump without a switch for one of the following reasons.

      1. Buyer has their own supply of switched or buy switches from us in bulk. They then buy pumps one or two at a time and use the switches they have in their inventory.
      2. Buyer is replacing an existing pump and their existing switch is working fine and does not require replacement.
      3. Buyer is using a 3rd party switch.
      4. Buyer is using the ION GENESIS pump controller. When using a pump with the ION Genesis, the ION Genesis acts as your sump pumps switch, thus, the pump should be purchased without switches.
      5. Buyer is using the pump in an unconventional manner, such as a continuous run pump for an emergency situation. We often see customer use pumps in this manner to use the pump without a pit to remove flood water from a basement.

    • What is the difference between the STORMPRO and ION STORM Pumps?
    • Aside from the switch, the pumps are identical. The difference between the two is the type of switch used to operate the pump. The physical pump is identical on both models.

The ION STORM is a marketing naming convention used to identify the Stormpro Pump with an ION Switch.

The STORMPRO is a marketing naming convention used to identify the Stormpro pump without the ION Switch.

These naming convention is used by the manufacture to track popularity of a particular style of pump and to implement continuous improvement features where required.

    • Do you have any guidelines for properly sizing a pump?
    • Generally speaking, the longer the pump runs and the longer it is off, the better. For replacement situations, if the old pump seemed to have a decent run cycle, the new pump can be sized off the old pump’s curve and installing an identically sized pump

For drain tile, there is a calculation that uses the square foot of the area that feeds the drain tile and a 100 year flood rule, based on geographic location. Being that it would be impossible for to know all the details of the installation and local codes, sizing is typically left up to the installing contractor. Installing contractors typically make a site visit to properly calculate the size requirements of the site…
